If you are not familiar with the founding of Perfect Leaf Management LLC and its sister company lawncarerus.com, please allow me to share our story with you.I am Mick Myers, founder, and I've always cherished the efforts of home owners, parks and businesses within communities to create healthy, well-maintained lawns with beautiful curb appeal.

 

My passion for beautiful and healthy landscapes started in my youth. My chores--mowing my parent’s lawn--grew into a sense of fulfillment. While my friends asked for bicycles, I asked for a Snapper mower. I'd seen a Snapper in action every Wednesday when the park maintenance crew mowed our baseball field. After noticing my admiration for the art of grounds maintenance, I was offered a summer job in lawn maintenance. 

 

During this time my knowledge, understanding and respect for landscaping became a career choice:

• Knowledge: Anything that grows has specific caring requirements. 

• Understanding: Mother Nature and seasonal transition is imperative. 

• Respect: If you care for greenery responsibly – your reward is vigorous, beautiful growth,

• Customer Attraction: Property values increase. If you don't businesses and homeowners will abandon communities. 

 

Landscape treatment, core aeration, perimeter pest control and landscaping are fields that I have explored, studied and have many hours of hands-on experience.

 

The unique thing about keeping the grounds of one large upscale community is the learning experience available. 

 

For example lawns need Core Aeration (link) before lawn treatment is applied. Treatments work faster and last longer. Perimeter pest control (link) needs to be applied, before flower beds (link) are installed to insure ornamentals and shrubs will not become infested with insects. 

 

If we do not apply a fire ants (link) prevention application in the fall, come spring ant beds would be all over the grounds.

 

The same is true with crab grass prevention. The application needs to be applied in the spring or crab grass seeds will begin to germinate within the soil. By summer crabgrass will certainly be sun bathing on your lawn. Crabgrass that could have been prevented with one application now will take at least four or more treatments to kill.

 

Completion of my state certification and agriculture license in Ornamental, Turf and Pest meant spending an entire year creating preventative treatment programs that were effective, affordable and environmentally proactively smart.

 

Insects, weeds, fungus and lawn diseases are all "reactions" results. Reactions come from lack of action. For example, allowing trash to pileup is the "action’” and when maggots crawl over trash that is the "reaction.

 

" My goal is to create programs that will cure the reactions affecting homes, community parks and businesses, while providing knowledge and understanding of action tactics to prevent damage.

 

Acquiring a business loan and startup capital to launch a landscape treatment company which would primarily service homes during the market crisis was one challenge I faced as well as earning respect as a minority. 

 

Minority treatment companies represent less than two percent of the industry. The loan officer at my personal bank, where I had maintained an account for eighteen-years, could have been a mascot for the two biggest treatment companies in the United States. Realizing the meeting was no longer productive I thanked them for their time and withdrew my portfolio before they took a glimpse at it.

 

I funded my own brand, including equipment, supplies, website, and trucks. I'd already earned a reputation for professionalism, high ethics and credit worthiness. The programs I offer are environmentally proactive and smart. My investment has paid off and my portfolio continues to grow.

 

I needed capital to hire and train technicians to service my overflow of customers. Although I had previously ordered and received one hundred thousand full color brochures and enrolled with USPS EDDM for distribution, not a single one has been mailed. Customers have either seen my program results or heard about them. Potential customers actually flag our trucks and ask for information.
