PMS Watering Instructions
Make sure your lawn receives at least one inch of water per week, either by rainfall or in combination with proper watering.
1. The best time to water is early morning, from six to nine a.m. well before full sun and never at night.
2. Frequent and deep watering (one inch of water will soak to a depth of four to six inches) will produce the healthiest lawn.
3. Stop watering if puddles form or runoff occurs. Allow water to soak in before resuming. In layman’s terms water at least three times per week for about twenty minutes. Subtract from days when it rains.
FAQ Rainfall vs. Self-watering We do not control when it rains nor how often or how long. But we can control and alter our watering based on the rain forecast.
Never water after 10 a.m. The heat from the sun will evaporate the water before satisfying the lawn roots. The hot water that does get to the roots will only boil them.
Never water at night. Watering at night causes lawn disease and poor drainage. Fungus and mold can also occur. Temperatures are normally low and there’s no sun to dry up the excess water after the lawn roots have been satisfied. The lawn remains wet until the next day. Think of what happens to our toes and fingers after sitting in water long periods of time! Well, the same happens to plants and lawns.
Ornamentals, shrubs and trees should also be watered in the morning from four to ten a.m. Focus only on the root zone. Watering the leaf is a waste of water and encourages plant disease.
Water deeply and thoroughly, six to twelve inches. Only as needed!
Mulch everything! Mulch retains moisture and maintains water the soil needs daily.
If you have flowerbeds with shrubs and ornamentals install a soaker. Sprinklers are OK but half the water output is wasted. Remember, all that needs watering is the roots. Wetting the leaves of flowers shrubs and trees is a total waste and cause disease.
